Carmakers refute Utusan's price slash claim
By Zurairi AR
June 13, 2013
People have a look at the Preve when it was first launched in Kuala Lumpur last year. This Proton model was cited by Utusan as one of several makes of cars where prices have been reduced.KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Carmakers Volkswagen and Peugeot have both refuted claims of a price slash this year, as reported in Umno-backed broadsheet Utusan Malaysia three days ago as part of proof that the ruling coalition had fulfilled its election pledges.
Utusan had reported that Volkswagen, Peugeot, Honda and local marques Proton and Perodua had reduced the prices for 10 of their models by up to 11 per cent from January this year, presenting the list as proof that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has fulfilled its pledge for lower car prices in its Election 2013 manifesto.
"Please be advised, the price on the image is incorrect. The Golf price has always been RM157,888 from the time of launch. Not RM169,888," a representative from Volkswagen Malaysia commented on its Facebook page, referring to its sports hatchback model Golf.
A user had previously posted an image of Utusan's report, which claimed that the Golf's price has been slashed by 7.1 per cent from RM169,888 to RM157,888.
Speaking to The Malaysian Insider, a dealer for the German marque confirmed that the Mark 7 1.4 TSI version of the Golf, which was launched earlier this year has always been priced starting from RM157,888.
Peugeot Malaysia also has responded on its Facebook page to the claim by Utusan that the price of its 308 model has been slashed by 11 per cent from RM115,663 to RM102,888.
"Without prejudice, nothing was issued by us, we were not consulted before the article went to print and have no association with the news contained therein. The prices shown appear to be the 308 Turbo pre-facelift and 308 VTi which are in fact two different variants of the Peugeot 308," said the French marque.
A dealer for Peugeot told The Malaysian Insider that the facelifted 308 VTi has always been priced at RM102,888 since it was launched in the middle of last year, and its 308 Turbo variant is priced at RM121,888.
Utusan also claimed that a Honda Jazz Hybrid now costs RM89,900 after a 2.5 per cent reduction from RM92,187.
A check with the Japanese marque confirmed that the completely knocked-down (CKD) version of the model assembled in its Alor Gajah plant has always been sold at RM89,900 since its launch late last year. The completely built-up (CBU) version released previously costs RM94,800.
The Malay daily also reported further price cuts for local models Persona, Preve, Saga and Exora from Proton, and Alza, Viva and Myvi from Perodua.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has reiterated his polls pledge to reduce car prices in a tweet late last month, promising that car prices will be reduced in stages until 2017.
On the same day, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed also said that the government had promised to trim car prices between 20 and 30 per cent over five years, as outlined in BN's election manifesto.
"In fact, since October last year, the price of 10 popular models in the country have come down an average 7.3 per cent," he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly gathering, the first after Mustapa was re-appointed to the Cabinet.
Both BN and opposition Pakatan Rakyat have pledged cheaper car prices in the run up to the May polls, although through different mechanisms.

PETALING JAYA: The recent outbreak of violence involving Myanmar nationals here in Malaysia is being distorted and used to instigate the population back in Myanmar.Blogs and social media platforms such as Facebook are being used to create the false impression that Myanmar nationals are being persecuted in Malaysia.
"They want to poison the minds of the people back home," claimed a Myanmar national who has lived in Malaysia for more than a decade.
Most of the blogs and Facebook postings are in Burmese although the Star Online came across the hlaoo1980.blogspot.com, which has posts in English.
The blog also posted up gruesome pictures of people being chopped up as the victims of the violence here.
One post quoted a Malaysian news agency on the violence in Malaysia but added information that was not in the original news piece, implicating the Rohingyas.
Violence in various parts of Kuala Lumpur involving Myanmar nationals from May 30-June 4 has seen three Myanmar nationals die and few others injured.
The violence has been linked to recent clashes in Myanmar between Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in the western state of Rakhine.
The observer however pointed out that the last major of outbreak was back in March.
"Why is the violence suddenly spilling over? Someone is trying to instigate the population back home. They are using Malaysia for their own political gain and sympathy," he said.
The observer also pointed out that many Myanmar nationals are changing their Facebook profile pictures to black in solidarity with the alleged victims here.

969 Terrorist Monk Khwe Wira Thu's head is full of S**T.
"Leader of 969 group wants to emulate the EDL"
The '969′ group, which he leads, is responsible for the violence that erupted last month between his followers and the Muslim community; that led to 43 deaths in Meiktila town.
Last Thursday hundreds of the campaign supporters rode motorbikes whilst brandishing metal rods and rioted in a town north east of Myanmar to burn business premises owned by Muslim community, the most recent violence.
The incident in the town of Lashio took place a day after the followers of the extremist monk had burnt mosques and a Muslim orphanage.
Wirathu, the monk who hates Islam, was jailed in 2003 for inciting violence against Muslims in the country; but was released last year as part of the prisoner pardon programme. He admitted that he was in Meiktila last month whilst the Buddhists were rioting.
He urged Buddhists from all over Myanmar to boycott Muslim-owned busineses and distributed the '969′ stickers as a symbol of Buddha's teaching.
The monk, as with most Buddhists are seen as worried about the successes of the Muslim community in Myanmar.
"They (Muslim community) are good in businesses. They control the transportation and construction industry. Now they are also getting involved in politics. If they succeed, we will end up like Afghanistan or Indonesia" says Wirathu.
Myanmar is a Buddhist country, but 9% of the 60 million perople are Muslims.
Last month a video recording showed a policeman standing still whilst watching a member of the '969′ squad burning a Muslim man.

We, one of the minority groups in Burma are seriously violated by Buddhist terrorists. A lot of our children, women and men have been killed by Buddhist Terrorists in the genocide of Burma. This genocide has been systematically planed and sponsored by pre-military junta, Thein Sein's government. Since the government of Burma is the main sponsor of this genocide, how could we expect the protection of our lives from Burmese government? We have no hope for protection from our government. We have no life protection and more than 10 million lives of Burmese Muslims are in danger because of the serious crime of genocide.
We humbly and strongly request you to recommend for sending United Nation peacekeeping forces into Burma to protect our lives.

DAP: Act against Utusan's lies on lower car prices from Malaysiakini by Susan Loone
Umno-owned newspaper Utusan Malaysia received another bashing from the Penang government for "lying" that car prices had dipped in line with the BN's government 'Janji Ditepati' (promises fulfilled) 13th general election slogan. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng accused the broadsheet of "racism and slander" whose contents cannot be relied on. "Utusan lied when it said the federal government has fulfilled its election pledges of providing cheaper cars," Lim said at a press conference. "But the car companies have come out to refute the reports," he added, referring to Volkswagen and Peugeot which had rejected claims of price slashing for their cars.
"This is serious and the authorities should take action against Utusan. It seems we cannot trust anything they write, perhaps we can only trust the date on the newspaper," he mocked. The DAP secretary-general was quick to add "this is nothing personal about the journalists but the newspaper company".
Details nailing the lies released
On June 10, Utusan carried a front-page report that 10 models of cars are now cheaper, as their cost had reduced from between RM449 to RM12,775 (0.7 to 11 percent), from January to May this year. The Malay-language daily said the reduction applied to models such as Peugeot, Proton, Perodua, Volkswagen and Honda. "The government has fulfilled its promises to reduce car prices in stages when the five companies announced the price reduction of ten cars," said the report.
It also quoted the Malaysian Automotive Institute as saying that the car prices cannot be cut suddenly as that would impact the prices of used cars, bank loans, used car industry businessmen and the banking institutions which provides car loans. Three days later, Volkswagen Malaysia said in Facebook that: "Please be advised, the price on the image is incorrect. The Golf price has always been RM157,888 from time of launch. Not RM169,888. Thank you".
Meanwhile, Peugeot Malaysia, on the question of whether there is truth in the price slash said: "Without prejudice, nothing was issued by us, we were not consulted before the article went to print and have no association with the news contained therein. "The prices shown appear to be of the 308 Turbo pre-F/L and 308 VTi which are in fact two different variants of the Peugeot 308".
Meanwhile PKR said the episode reflected the "utter desperation" of Umno in dealing with Pakatan's '#TurunkanHargaKereta' campaign to slash car prices. "It appears that the commitment to reduce car prices by Umno-BN was made after it recognised how popular Pakatan's '#TurunkanHargaKereta' campaign was, yet until today they are unable to find a mechanism to do so without doing away with the government's reliance on excise duties," its communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said. "Utusan shows that the once-proud Malay broadsheet is now a symbol of bad journalism as it acts to further the interests of its political owners, Umno." Nik Nazmi called on the daily to apologise immediately to the carmakers concerned, and to all Malaysians.

The Islamic jihad against Christians in Nigeria is proving to be the most barbaric. A new report states that 70% of Christians killed around the world in 2012 were killed in the African nation. Among some of the atrocities committed in March alone, at least 41 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack at a bus station in a predominantly Christian neighborhood. According to the Christian Association of Nigeria, these attacks "were a signpost of the intended extermination of Christians and Christianity from northern Nigeria."
According to the Rev. Jerome Ituah, "Out of the 52 Catholic churches in Maiduguri diocese, 50 of them have been destroyed by Boko Haram. When two Christian brothers were returning home after Sunday church service, jihadis opened fire on them with machine guns, killing the brothers, as well as three others, and injuring several more Christians.
Another 13 Christian factory workers in Kano were "gruesomely" slain. Said the local bishop: "Reports of the attack reaching us disclosed that on that fateful Saturday at about 7 p.m, Muslim faithful were conducting their prayer close to the affected compound occupied by Christian families, when two taxi cabs stopped in front of the compound and the occupants, who all concealed their arms dashed into the complex and demanded to know why the residents were not part of the 7 p.m. Muslim prayer. They responded by telling the visitors they were Christians and so could not be part of the Muslim gathering. At that point, they separated the men from their wives and children and shot them dead on the spot after ordering the women and children into their homes" to be enslaved.
The bishop added that, "government should show more concern, like it has always done when Muslims are affected; I have not seen that in the case of Christians—that 13 Christians were killed in one straight attack and nothing is heard from the government reflects selective justice because we are aware of compensation paid to Muslim families in situations of this nature."
However, the Nigeria government recently did go on the offensive to try to contain the jihadis in northern Nigeria—only to be chastised by the Obama administration, in the person of John Kerry, who recently warned the Nigerian government not to violate the "human rights" of the jihadi mass murderers.
Categorized by theme, the rest of March's Muslim persecution of Christians around the world includes (but is not limited to) the following accounts, listed by theme and in country alphabetical order, not necessarily according to severity: Continue here to the article in full............................

"Zahid fikir dia pintar.
-TMI

PKR: Explain how Altantuya's case was 'dealt with'
Aries46: Women, Community and Family Development Minister Rohani Karim seems to be under the delusion that the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder has been 'dealt with' despite the real culprits who planned and executed it as well as their motive were well concealed at the trial. There are too many unanswered questions, including Najib Abdul Razak's illusion that his oath disclaiming knowledge of the murdered woman vindicates him of alleged complicity in the saga. The untenable discharge of the confessed lover, Abdul Razak Baginda, too, appears strange as the attorney-general (AG) failed to appeal the decision despite strong public pressure to do so. The subsequent overwhelming evidence revealed by the late private investigator P Balasubramaniam and carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan, too, was blatantly ignored by the enforcement agencies, raising the question who are these very important person (VIP) culprits that the law enforcement personnel are falling over each other to protect.
Hmmmmmmmm: Even BN supporters feel that the PM was somehow involved in the Altantuya case. Otherwise how do you explain them immediately taking down posters of Altantuya during the last general election (GE) knowing that the PM would be passing by those routes? The PM's name was not even mentioned on the posters. They didn't realise that by doing that, they are actually doubting the PM's claim of innocence.
Cala: Shall we wait for a post-Najib administration? Due to accessibility, both physical and through the Internet, the world has become literally flatter and there is a convergence of ideas and actions in the long run. By refusing to do the right thing regarding the death of Altantuya (the Mongolian woman who allegedly sought US$500,000 commission for the purchase of two submarines by the Malaysian government), Malaysia will be held as a "pariah state" by the world community for being uncivilised, lawlessness, and lacking human rights. If the CEO of a nation is OB (out of bounds) to the law, then it forces upon the new government to do the right thing in a post-Najib administration. Otherwise, Anything but Umno (ABU).
Heavywater: The case should never be closed as there was no motive for the two accused to kill a girl whom they do not know nor have any interaction with. So why on earth did they kill her? They must have received instruction from their boss or bosses? In a murder case, motive must be established.
Bernard Phillips: Rohani must have been living on another planet to say that the Altantuya case has been settled. Is that why she was appointed by the PM? I simply cannot comprehend how Umno and others in the government can still go about denying that Najib is linked to the case. I am just so proud of MP Zuraida Kamaruddin for openly accusing the PM. Now let us hope that Najib will take her to court. Or can we hope that the AG will take his job seriously enough to open fresh investigations? In the meantime, I suggest that the PM does not go strutting around the world until his name is cleared.
Mushiro: Zuraida, you have made a statement of fact. I believe 90 percent of Malaysians agree with you. It is not a coincidence that all those involved in the murder are from the PM's household, including the two cops.
My4HOPE: I foresee, though not through a crystal ball, that Altantuya's unsolved murder will again make Malaysia well-known across the globe. Do you really think the Mongolian government or women's delegation will just stop questioning? Mind you, they are descendants of Genghis Khan.
Anonymous #67264380: Shame on all the mothers who condone this gruesome murder. This is not politics. This is murder. Does any religion condone murder?
EvenSteven: Poor Dr Setev Shaariibuu, up till now there is still no closure to his daughter's death. Granted the two police officers were found guilty but the bigger question is who ordered the killing? Obviously it must be someone in authority who is powerful enough to do so and also influential enough to arrange for the erasure of Altantuya's immigration records (what a stupid move). Will we ever know the truth or will the cover-up hold?
Anonymous #007: Syabas, PKR Women's wing chief Zuraida for your courage to speak up. You will not be alone, many rakyat are behind you.
WhatIwant: I, too, salute you, Zuraida. It looks like our PM will not be attending any Asian heads of government meeting in Mongolia (if it were to be held there) anytime soon. I will be telling my grandchildren about this sensational murder case so they will know about this 'hari ini dalam sejarah'. It would be good if we can pass the hat round during the Black 505 rally day on June 22 to support Altantuya's children. If the 51-percent-rejected government won't seek justice and the truth for Altantuya, then the people will.
Bluemountains: Zuraida has now named the culprit responsible for the murder of Altantuya. Is the named culprit going to take it sitting down? The named culprit should now sue her for defamation if he is innocent. But please be a gentleman and not hide behind the criminal defamation act.

Voter alleges Nurul committed graft in defaming Nong Chik
EvenSteven: In the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary seat, the whole BN machinery including the kitchen sink were thrown in to wrest the seat from incumbent MP Nurul Izzah Anwar. This did not work as the massive turnout negated any attempts to steal the seat. In desperation two ballot boxes, from whence they came nobody seems to know, were ferried to the counting centre in a taxi and Proton Waja allegedly to swing the tide against Nurul. It was obvious to everyone present, including the returning officer - an underhanded last ditch effort to save the day for challenger Raja Nong Chik with what must have been postal votes. Just as well this attempt was thwarted by the returning officer, who had no choice but to follow the rules. Nurul won fair and square, so what's the problem?
TehTarik: Election petitioner Mohamad Sazali Kamilan is talking nonsense. Why were the ballot boxes being carried in the booth of a taxi and a Proton Waja? The EC operating procedure is very clear - that the ballot boxes should be placed in the back seat, not the booth. Why was one of the boxes marked 120, which is the Bukit Bintang constituency? Why were the boxes being ferried, late in the night, when the main counting was over? I have a hunch that the two vehicles were carrying ballot boxes containing 'postal votes' from another constituency. Can Mohd Sazali explain the origins of these two mystery ballot boxes?
Hplooi: So this is the strategy of the BN government to counter the election petitions by the opposition - lodge counter petitions which are frivolous. This is like a filibuster where a perfectly valid submissions are blocked by frivolous counter submissions. If we go by their logic, then BN politicians are much more guilty of defamation and in many documented cases, race-baiting, hate mongering etc. But the objectives of these filibustering petitions are not the truth but to so clutter up the public domain and the courts that the whole point of unfair and one-sided electoral practice is smothered and hopefully forgotten as the public tires of incessant snipping. To effectively counter such filibuster (only in the court of public opinion, forget about the courts) is to present each petition and argument in well-reasoned explanation and well-researched and documented facts. The shallow nature of such filibustering counter-petition will defeat itself in the public domain.
Anonymous_3f4b: If Pakatan can file election petitions in 24 parliamentary seats, what is wrong in BN filing 21 petitions? If one look closely at the numerical 24 and in the hypothetical situation that Pakatan is to win in all the petitions and the results nullified and Pakatan is declared the winner, this will give them 113 seats which is just enough to form the federal government with a simple majority. Perhaps this is their political game plan all along but what about those seats which they won by a whisker? Are the results in those seats fair and square and not open to judicial challenge? Why are there no strong challenges in states won by Pakatan in Selangor, Penang and Kelantan? Are the results in these states free from fraud, cheating and intimidation of voters? It is all about politics and self-interest rather than challenging the election results for the public benefit.
Vijay47: I think someone else should file another petition against Nurul on the grounds that by her winning her seat, she had insulted Raja Nong Chik by effectively suggesting that he was not worthy of or suitable to be a member of parliament. Further, since his name includes the title 'Raja', it is evident that he is of royal origin and any act that places him in a position subordinate to a mere commoner is seditious and treasonous and Nurul should accordingly be stripped of both her MP status and her citizenship and she should be banished to any country as His Majesty The Yang Dipertuan Agong may decree.
Odin: I think the most sensible thing to do is to conduct the GE13 all over again. With all these petitions coming in from left, right, centre, top and bottom, the courts will not be able to finish hearing them all until after the next GE. The two closest meanings of graft are bribery and robbery. I fail to see how Nurul's alleged action could be construed as graft.
Kookie: This is good for Pakatan because the election petition supports Pakatan's allegations that the EC has not performed its role efficiently and effectively, and there is no way the courts can accept the petitions filed by the BN and not Pakatan.
Mushiro: Apa lagi Raja Nong Chik mahu? Raja Nong Chik has lost in spite of alleged cheating, the misuse of DBKL resources for his campaign and the huge amount of money spent. Nong Chik now wants a remedy in court. What next, Nong Chik?
Iamleavingbutdecidedtostay: Both sides have filed something like 80 election petitions. There is something terribly wrong with GE13. The best way out is to dissolve Parliament and redo the election with independent observers or an independent party conducting it

The rioting in Turkey has a great deal to teach about the Muslim Middle East and the way they do things there. A protest about the development of a park in Istanbul was the starting point. Open space is to be replaced with a shopping mall, a mosque, and the reconstruction of an Ottoman-era barracks. In other words, another incremental step towards Islamism is masked by commerce. Everyone also knows that cronies of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be enriching themselves by means of the construction contracts.
A Western prime minister might well find himself caught like this. In which case, he would be obliged to back-pedal and come to terms with the protesters. Either the development could be justified or a scandal might ensue that opens the prime minister to inspection. Muslim culture rules out such a process. Real or even implicit criticism shames a Muslim leader and therefore cannot be allowed. Reversing reality, the leader attributes shame to the protesters, and at the same time he has to make a show of strength.
Erdogan played exactly according to these values. Unable to admit that the protesters are ordinary people with a reasonable demand, he insulted them as riffraff, looters, vandals, and even terrorists – a keyword these days. He could see no inconsistency in fantasizing that they are foreign agents or speculators out to harm the stock market. Since this was bound to make him look ridiculous, he sent in the police to prove that he is really a strong man. Five thousand people have been treated in hospital, according to the latest figures, and nearly 1,000 arrested. It is great good fortune that he has not taken the next step of ordering up live ammunition instead of tear gas and water cannons.
Of course it is unintentional, but Erdogan's conduct in Turkey is parallel to Bashar Assad's in Syria. He too responded to a reasonable demand for reforms by trying to shame and then kill protesters real or imaginary. Throughout the Muslim Middle East, the culture predetermines the violence.
